Ketamine-Assisted Therapy

Reimagine Healing, Rediscover Hope

Ketamine Treatments

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), also known as Ketamine-assisted integrated psychotherapy (KAIP), has been found to help with depression, PTSD, addiction, and significant life changes. It is a deeply transformational and introspective process. While many clinics offer ketamine IV drips, Milestone provides ketamine with the powerful addition of guided support and talk therapy within the framework of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. The journey is uniquely yours, but we will be with you and supporting you along the way.

Our licensed and certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Tisha Romero, and our Trauma therapist, Tara Mullan, offer Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy at our clinic in Phoenix, AZ.

The Typical Process of KAP Sessions

Intake

Your journey starts with a psychiatric evaluation to ensure KAP is right for you and to rule out any physical conditions. If you have a therapist, we’ll coordinate with them, or we can connect you with one.

Preparation

After picking up your ketamine prescription, you’ll schedule your session. On the day, you’ll relax in a low-light room with options like tailored lighting, a mask, headphones, and weighted blankets for optimal comfort.

KAP Session

Your session begins with setting intentions in a calming space. The ketamine experience lasts 1-1.5 hours, during which we check your vitals. To keep you comfortable, we offer options like a mask, weighted blanket, and headphones, with our team supporting you throughout.

Integration & Follow-Up

After the session, we’ll evaluate your mood and any side effects and share the information with your therapist. Integration is a personal journey, and activities like talking, journaling, or art can be beneficial. If you need more support, we offer additional integration sessions.

Understanding Ketamine

Ketamine is an “off-label” treatment for various chronic “treatment-resistant” mental health conditions. It is a Schedule III medication that has long been used safely as an anesthetic and analgesic agent and is now utilized for treating depression, alcoholism, substance dependencies, PTSD, and other psychiatric diagnoses, as well as for existential, psychological, and spiritual crises and growth.

Ketamine is classified as a dissociative anesthetic (dissociation meaning a sense of disconnection from one’s ordinary reality and usual sense of self). At the doses administered to you, you will most likely experience mild anesthetic, anxiolytic, antidepressant, and possibly psychedelic effects. When combined with therapeutic support and processing by our licensed therapist Tara Mullen, it can be possible to view life circumstances from new perspectives, connect to emotions, and open up to new possibilities.

What to Expect After Your Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Session

After your Ketamine-Assisted Therapy session, we’ll take the time to assess your mood, reactions, and any side effects to ensure a smooth recovery. This information is shared with your therapist to guide your ongoing treatment. Integration is a key part of the process, typically taking place within 72 hours of your session. Whether you’ve experienced euphoria for 30 minutes or more during the 2-hour session, integration therapy helps you process and make the most of your experience, available for both nasal and infusion treatments.
